The Philippines’ Niagara Falls

M ost of us feel that taking a walk with nature is great for us. Having a break from the rush of our daily lives and enjoy the splendor and serenity of being in a natural setting.

We believe that being with nature has health benefits, both mental and physical. Five minutes around trees or in green spaces may improve health like a prescription with no negative side effects that are also free.

Our first stop in Surigao del Sur, Bislig – The blooming City by the bay.

This appealing city on the east coast of Mindanao, facing the Pacific Ocean is surrounded by abundant natural forest and industrial tree plantations. A bright and livable city towards producing agricultural and marine products becoming a leading eco-tourism destination in Southeastern Philippines.

Tinuy-an Falls

The name derives from the Visayan word “tuyo,” which means “aim,” and not the Tagalog word that means “dry.”

Hyped as the Niagara Falls of the Philippines, the Tinuy-an falls is a beautiful white-water curtain that flows in three magnificent levels. Approximately 180 feet high and a breathtaking width of 95 meters, it is said to be the widest waterfalls in the Philippines.

I have been to Niagara Falls in the USA and witnessed how majestic and cascading was Niagara. But the view and the power of Tinuy-an Falls is just really breathtaking. The sound and its mist from the waterfalls are astoundingly relaxing. Unlike Naigara, Tinuy-an Falls development has been kept to a minimum. There are few picnic tables, cottages, and stores all are available for rent but not much more.

Charm in its unspoiled beauty

Everyone who wish to get close as possible to the falls can cross the wooden bridge. This is where you can take a dip in the cool, clear waters. If you get there between 9:00 and 11:00 when the angle of the sun is just right rainbows are forming at the base of the falls. You may also rent a raft to bring you closer to the drop.

By walking along the picturesque trails, you will find various kinds of plants, birds and even insects. Indeed, a sanctuary of many wild species that makes it an ideal place for countryside tripping

To check out the upper tier of the falls go further up the steep and slippery trail. You should have a guide with you for safety measures and they can take good photos of you up there. You can also take a short plunge and a free massage under the nature’s force.

Tinuy-an Falls is a must visit destination for every outdoor aficionados who love to see the beauty of nature at its grandeur.

Intuitively we knew that nature was good for us as humans, but the results were beyond brilliant.

Shouldn’t we all be spending more time outside interacting with nature?
